This was my submission to the Heavy Metal hardcore modeling challenge held here recently; I chose to make the Daleks of Doctor Who fame and their Emperor, menacing their menace. All 3d assets were modeled and rendered in Maya 7 (plus Mental Ray for ambient-occlusion) while the compositing was done in Photoshop 7. The silhouettes were also done in Photoshop, pen-tooled from a scanned sketch. There's no texturing; only simple shader, but I found that with the lighting I liked the pulp-B&W-sci-fi look it evoked.

I'd love to hear any advice on shaders and textures; I really don't know a whole lot about that area, and thankfully it wasn't a requirement of the challenge. Any other advice would certainly be welcome too!
(Doctor Who and the Daleks are property of BBC-Wales. Watch the show; it rocks!)
